Sir, - I was appalled at the display of uncontrolled violence which erupted on my television screen during the All Ireland Football Final last Sunday. I am affronted that my young children should be witness to such a display from players who are supposed to represent the finest in their "sport".
I am even more amazed at the apparent complacency over the incident indicated by the relative lack of comment in the media. Mr. Jack Boothman's seeming unwillingness to condemn such violence, and his blithe comment on the news that violence is part of Irish society, is irresponsible. To say that this sort of behaviour undermines our attempts to raise our children with respect for each other, and our attempts to resolve the ongoing conflicts in this country, is an understatement. - Yours etc,
Crosthwaite Park West,
Dun Laoghaire.
