AIB curbs withdrawals abroad

Madam, – I am a customer and retired staff member of AIB

Madam, – I am a customer and retired staff member of AIB. I travel extensively and am at present in South East Asia for three months, on holiday and working. My AIB Banklink card is my lifeline to get money out of my account. Banks here charge 150 bath (€4) for each withdrawal. Like travellers from all around the world we can get around 10,000 bath (€250) each day. Without advising the customers abroad, AIB reduced the limit to 3,000 bath (€75) per day.

This is a huge inconvenience and has trebled the bank charge for AIB customers outside Europe. My call to AIB Bankcentre ATM Services was ignored. I asked them to e-mail me with an update on the situation but have received no reply.

My friends from the US, UK, and all over the world are happily using their ATM cards without problem. Please advise intending travellers of this situation (Home News, March 4th Pricewatch, March 7th). – Yours, etc,
