Sir, - I refer to the Very Rev. Victor G. Griffin's letter of July 31st. How easy it is for the retired Dean of St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, to write from his armchair in Limavady and to criticise the clergy after the events at Drumcree. If the Dean feels he could have resolved the problem, why did he not come to Drumcree? His presence and advice would have been most welcome.
To make public comments on events which he only watched on his TV screen, and never experienced through his many years of ministry in Northern Ireland and in the Irish Republic, does nothing to help and encourage those clergy who worked long hours before and during the crisis, trying to bring it to a peaceful end. - Yours etc.,
The Rectory, Drumcree Road, Portadown BT62 1PE.
