Sir, - If Aer Lingus were a normal airline, that is, a company run with the same flair and enterprise as, say, Ryanair, it would today be 10 times its present size and immensely profitable also. It would be at least as big as Swissair or KLM, as profitable as Singapore Airlines. It isn't it has spent the last 30 years failing to be, and it never will be in the future.

The ethos within it, which has it scuffling in the dirt in a truly disedifying argument over a minor matter with its chief benefactor at this time, is the sole cause of this state of affairs. Possibly the worst work ethos and management culture to be seen anywhere is readily apparent in the behaviour and the attitudes of this rotting albatros. - Yours, etc.,
