Sir, - With respect to Emmet M.J. McElhatton (June 14th), Leo G. Carroll did not make "about a dozen" films with Hitchcock. He made only six: Rebecca, Suspicion, Spellbound, The Paradine Case, Strangers on a Train and North by Northwest. Even so, he holds the record for the number of appearances in Hitchcock films - if one excepts the director himself.
And nowhere did I suggest that Hitchcock was less than good at handling actors. Cary Grant, who was arguably the best film actor who ever lived, said: "I whistled coming to work on his films." - Yours, etc.,
