Sir, - I am writing in relation to young drivers and the current fad for car modification. It is apparent that a large percentage of cars being driven by young people have additions such as alloy wheels, oversized exhaust pipes, tinted windows and spoilers.
These types of alterations may be appropriate for cars on racing tracks, but not the public roadway. It is obvious that turning a blind eye to this type of activity does little to change the current attitude of young drivers. Surely the above can be dealt with by the Garda under current legislation? If not, would the Minister consider such paraphernalia illegal in an attempt to improve the behaviour of young drivers?
If a car looks like a racing car there is a fair chance that it will be driven like a racing car. Is this not obvious? - Yours, etc.,
