A chara, - Those of us who have long criticised this Government's woeful handling of the health service have often been accused of scaremongering or exaggeration.
However, on reading the letter from Protima Mukherjee (March 10th), who compares her experiences in a public hospital in Ireland with the far superior and free treatment she received in a public hospital in Calcutta, one may be left wondering if we have understated the scale of the problems facing our health service.
A recent OECD report showed that Ireland's spending on health was one of the lowest among developed countries.
Until such time as we are prepared to invest properly in the health of our people, we can unfortunately expect to hear more stories such as Ms Mukherjee's. - Is mise,
