Sir, – Like Brian Coulter (April 17th) I too was listening to the weather forecast on our national radio station on Sunday morning a week ago. I relied on the accuracy of Met Éireann.
I live in Tyrone and had to decide whether to travel to Dublin, our capital city, to watch the county team or stay in Tyrone and garden. On hearing that there would be gales in Leinster, Munster and Connacht and parts of Ulster but not Tyrone I decided to garden. I was disappointed with Met Éireann when the gales hit Tyrone. I assumed a serious forecasting error.
Now I am alerted to the fact that for the Irish Met service Tyrone may not be in Ireland. I had never thought of that before. Thank God it wasn’t an ice and snow warning I could have been seriously inconvenienced. At least Tyrone won. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – In reply to Brian Coulter’s letter (April 17th) about Met Éireann’s omission of Ulster in a recent forecast, one imagines it is perfectly within its rights to do so. Many 26-county dwellers (including this one) might find it petty that all British weather updates include only the north-east corner of this island. Petty, yet it is obvious to understand. – Yours, etc,
