Madam, – I have just seen the article on lawn bowls in your sports section (April 24th) and I am very annoyed about same. I really feel whoever wrote this knows nothing about this sport.
Bowls is played by sportspeople of all ages. Families are very much involved in most clubs and age makes little difference. Even if older people play a sport such as this, why ridicule them in such a fashion?
I am a member of a club formed in 1892, which is going strong, and many men and women of all ages play side by side every day of the year as we have two greens, all-weather and grass. We play in leagues both in winter and summer. We might be older than the writer of your article, but we keep well, and are happy to be able to enjoy the simple things in life that would not cost as much as golf or many other sports.
We have volunteers within the clubs who help to keep the grounds green and buildings in pristine conditions for all members of all ages. – Yours, etc,
