Sir, – Another rural post office is under threat; ours in Bansha, Co Tipperary, the cradle parish of Muintir na Tíre.
This is because our “lords and masters” in An Post have a golden opportunity – the associated shop and business is up for sale! This is one of 400 rural post offices at risk, representing a total population in excess of over half a million people.
It plans to close them all – gradually, one by one.
There seems to be a callous disrespect and disregard for rural communities and particularly for the elderly and the vulnerable that reside there.
We need caring governance for rural people and not governance that is cold, aloof and shows blatant and cavalier disregard for rural Ireland and for our need, and our right, to basic services therein. – Yours, etc,
