Madam, - Am I alone in being bored to death listening to the negative whimpering of our politicians? I am not an apologist for Fianna Fáil, but the party voted into Government and surely it is not beyond the bounds of reason to expect the Opposition parties to be gracious in defeat and, with some positive thinking, work for the good of the country!
For over 30 years I stood in front of a class of children and daily urged them to see the bottle half-full, to look up, not down, to look forward, not backward. I never used corporal punishment while teaching, but I must admit if I had some of the Opposition politicians in my class, I would be very tempted to give them a good slap on the wrist to waken them out of their negative slumber. Indeed, they must spend all their waking hours and much of their sleeping hours concocting how best to snipe at and snare their fellow politicians.
For the sake of our young people, and our country, would you please let the dead past bury their dead, pull together like civilised human beings and get on with doing the work you are paid to do! - Yours, etc,
BRENDA MAGUIRE,
Foster Avenue,
Blackrock, Co Dublin.
