Sir, - Last night seven of us sat down to a thoroughly enjoyable dinner. We told stories, we laughed, we sang - pretty normal stuff. Two Catholics, one Protestant, two Buddhists, also one Muslim (an ethnic Afghan from the Middle East) and one American Jewess; the latter two having never met before. (The American girl's father, incidentally, works at the Pentagon and was to have had a meeting in the ill-fated part of the building where so many lives were lost.)
Even though we celebrated a birthday, ultimately we rose above our differences and celebrated being human. - Yours, etc.,
Robbie Fry, Glenageary, Co Dublin.
