Madam, – I have to admit I make time to read Senator David Norris’s writings on national issues (Opinion, October 15th). But his latest idea of shoe-horning the Abbey Theatre into a fuddy-duddy reconstructed copy of a Greek temple in the middle of O’Connell Street, wrapping it in a cloak of sentimentality and endlessly repeating O’Casey’s trilogy to a dwindling number of American tourists is complete rubbish.
My own preference is that the theatre remains on its present site but enlarges by three times its present size, with the main entrance opening onto a plaza facing the river.
It could be incorporated into the proposed new Liberty Hall complex development. – Yours, etc,
