Madam, – My children and I have just returned to Belgium from our excellent summer holidays in west Clare.
I heard a lot about “staycations” while I was there and many people complained about the high costs of holidaying at home. I took my two children and three of their cousins out for a day in north Clare. I was astounded at the fantastic value that we found. In Lisdoonvarna we all enjoyed an excellent breakfast and superb service in Lynch’s hotel and I had change from €30. We went on to the Ailwee Caves and Birds of Prey centre, where I was astounded to be asked for only €45 entrance fee to visit both places. Later we stopped for our tea in Vaughan’s pub in Kilfenora, where we enjoyed some delicious chowder and other food and this time my bill was just short of €25. So for just short of €100 a fantastic day out was had by the six of us – I don’t think you can ask for better and I believe the businesses of north and west Clare should be congratulated for keeping their prices reasonable in these straitened times. We shall be back. – Yours, etc,
