Madam, - I wonder if you appreciate the gem you have in your chess correspondent JJ Walsh? As he approaches his 10,000th contribution he can look back on 30 years of giving quiet pleasure to many of your readers.
How pleasant it is to sometimes find the grandmaster's supermove, but even in failure there is always much to be enjoyed in JJ's analysis. There is no luck in chess, no PR, no PC, no dodgy assumptions, just pure reason. Whichever player makes the most good moves or the least bad ones will prevail. For this reason JJ's is an excellent place to start reading your paper.
On behalf of all the chess buffs: Thanks, JJ - Yours, etc.,
PETER KELLY, Oulart, Co Wexford.
