Sir, – So, Fianna Fáil has finally figured out why it lost the election (“Change of name among suggestions as Fianna Fáil meets to discuss future”, Home News, July 12th).
Apparently, it didn’t get the message across to us about how bad the economic situation was in the months leading up to the election. This harebrained reasoning implies that if only it had told us the truth, instead of being “economic” with it, we would have trusted the party and voted all of its candidates back in.
There was no mention that we might be capable of figuring out who had had a hand in our reversal of fortunes. – Yours, etc,
Sir, – I read that Fianna Fáil considers the possibility of a party name-change (Home News, July 12th). Simultaneously Patsy McGarry (Opinion, July 12th) alludes to the Taoiseach’s brave efforts at restoring a cute hoor culture to Irish politics in his mis-handling of the hospital controversy. Fianna Gael? – Yours, etc,
Sir, – I see that the Fianna Fáil parliamentary party is considering a change of name. On the assumption that “D’Unbelievables” is not available for obvious reasons, why not opt instead for “D’Untouchables”? – Yours, etc,
Sir, – I would like to congratulate photographer Cyril Byrne on his photograph of Fianna Fáil leader Michael Martin and Senator Averil Power (p7, July 12th).
If readers are interested they should look at the painting in the background . . .lots of shady- looking characters looking out of the corners of their eyes at one another. Brilliant! – Yours, etc,
Sir, – “There was a consensus that we have to hang together”, according to one of those present at a day-long meeting of Fianna Fáil TDs, Senators and MEPs (Home News, June 12th)
So Fianna Fáil finally found the pulse of the electorate! – Yours, etc,
