A 'céad míle fáilte' for Obama

Madam, – I welcome the visit of President Obama to Ireland in May

Madam, – I welcome the visit of President Obama to Ireland in May. It holds the prospect of injecting a major boost to the ailing tourism trade of the Emerald Isle from the American people, especially from those claiming an Irish-American background.

Undoubtedly Mr Obama will visit his ancestral home in Moneygall in Co Offaly, but perhaps he could be encouraged to travel a little further south and visit Ireland’s oldest city, Waterford?

To date Waterford is the only city in Ireland not fortunate enough to enjoy a visit from previous American presidential visits.

Céad Míle Fáilte to the Urbs Intacta, Mr President. – Yours, etc,

MICHAEL C O’CONNOR,

Dunmore Road,

Waterford.
