Sir, – David McWilliams’s column on Saturday is as timely as it is relevant (“Prepare for slowly broken promises and a familiar sense of betrayal”, Opinion, November 23rd). His clear-eyed economic analysis is a clarion call to all in this election – politicians, commentators and voters.
The threats identified in the piece – foreign direct investment, housing, an ageing population, youth emigration and immigration – represent clear and present dangers to the Irish economy and society. We would all do well to read, and heed, this warning. – Yours, etc,
