Sir, – I agree with David McWilliams (“In a too-hot Irish economy, politicians are treating voters like children in a sweet shop”, Opinion, November 16th).
The constant issuing of ridiculous carrots to the electorate shows no appreciation of the many problems in the country. We need large public infrastructure projects to be started and completed in a reasonable timescale. That we don’t have a metro service from Dublin Airport to the city centre is a joke and the allocation of money from the Apple windfall would seem to make sense, and we would have something definite achieved that we could take some pride in and not have it frittered away on baubles that will soon be forgotten. Other projects that could be considered are light-rail systems for Cork, Limerick and Galway.
It’s time to think big and get the hell on with it. – Yours, etc,
