Sir, – As we face into another general election campaign, when Irish politicians may be tempted to follow the example of Donald Trump in doling out personal attacks and insults to their opponents without restraint, I would like to pay tribute to departing TD Eamon Ryan as an example of a politician who, despite being subjected to undeserved mockery and insults on a frequent basis, was unfailingly respectful and civil in his treatment of others. Would it be too much to ask that more of his fellow politicians might take a leaf from his book? – Yours, etc,
KATHY QUIRKE,
Dún Laoghaire,
Co Dublin.
