Sir, – Michael McDowell in “Dublin traffic plan caught up in culture wars” (Opinion & Analysis, July 10th) acknowledges that “there is a strong case for safe cycle access to the city”. Competing with buses, trucks, taxis and super-sized four-wheel drives makes cycling in the city a treacherous form of transport. Advocating for safe cycle lanes is not a populist pastime but merely fighting for some basic rights where four wheels good two wheels bad seems to still prevail. – Yours, etc,
