Sir, – I was puzzled by a headline in The Irish Times that read: “Grandmother jailed over false injury claims”(News, May 17th).
I don’t understand why the woman’s status as a grandmother is relevant. Does it imply that having achieved this honoured status that the person involved would be expected to have higher standards of probity?
I am reminded of a (small) headline carried by the Irish Press many years ago when I first became a radio presenter.
It read: “Mother to become radio presenter.” – Yours, etc,
