Sir, – Considering that expenses charged to RTÉ credit cards included hospitality, flowers and even baby gifts (“RTÉ executives spent over €175,000 on corporate credit cards”, News, April 6th), I’m wondering if TV licence fees could be charged as well. On mature reflection, however, I realised that TV licence fees would not be approved as they would never qualify as an entertainment expense. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – A lot of the expenses look bad but are easier to understand. “Grip and grin” and “taking your place” in the commercial world does cost money – and that can be difficult to justify in retrospect to the general public.
But my goodness, some of these credit card expenses look outrageous. One in particular jumps off the page. A board meeting off-site (why?) at a gourmet restaurant appropriately named “Suesey Street”.
No advertisers or clients attend board meetings. There is no one to be schmoozed. Yet still they spent two grand on the meal. Presumably, they were schmoozing themselves. – Yours, etc,
