Sir, – There is a saying that to some people with a hammer, everything is a nail. In Ireland these days, to some people with a tractor, everything is a hedgerow. As I travel throughout the country, I see that our hedgerows are hacked, slashed, torn, flattened. In fact, the favourite look seems to be a “crew-cut” countryside.
There is no doubt that our farmers know how to drive tractors. Do they know how to carefully manage hedgerows? – Yours, etc,
