Sir, – Frank McNally has put up a great challenge to his readers regarding suggestions to repair songs (An Irishman’s Diary, September 20th).
I suggest a modification to The Rose of Mooncoin.
Old couplet: Where the thrush and the robin their sweet notes combine/On the banks of the Suir that flow down by Mooncoin.
New couplet: Where the lark and the robin ate three balls of twine/On the banks of the Suir that flow down by Mooncoin. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Further to recent correspondence (Letters, September 21st), I think U2′s Vertigo, an albeit great song in which Bono sings “Uno, dos, tres, catorce” – in English, one, two, three, 14 – could do with some repairing. Substituting “catorce” with “cuatro” (four in Spanish) would do the trick. – Yours, etc,
