Sir, – The average wage of an Irish person is €44,200 per annum. In 2023, they will pay €6,100 in PAYE, €1,800 in PRSI, and €1,200 in universal social charge, leaving them with a take-home pay of just over €35,000.
It is simply astonishing to hear TDs from Fianna Fáil and the Green Party, who are paid a salary of €107,000, attacking the Fine Gael proposal that people on modest incomes should receive a substantial tax cut. How can such extraordinarily high rates of tax be justified at a time when the State coffers are awash with money? – Yours, etc,
