Sir, – Further to “Trump warns of civil unrest if indicted” (World, September 16th), over recent years Donald Trump’s attempts to portray himself positively have often brought to mind the observation of Samuel Johnson that patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel.
However, Mr Trump is now raising the spectre of civil unrest if his conduct is fully investigated, perhaps suggesting that the resourceful and dedicated scoundrel has one further stratagem, the threat of violence. – Yours, etc,
