Sir, – “Metaverse set to trigger paradigm shift in digital world” (Business, August 25th) parrots claims made by a self-professed “futurist” that the metaverse will lead to tens of millions of new jobs and create trillions of dollars.
Terms like blockchain, AI, and Web3 are bandied about as being revolutionary, despite no one having any clear idea of what (if anything) they’re good for. As far as this reader can see, a shoddy clone of 2003 multiplayer platform Second Life and a new way to sell monkey trading cards in the form of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) do not a revolution make. – Yours, etc,
