Sir, - One aspect of an article (Property Supplement, May 4th) on rental property around Europe should give our legislators pause for thought.
It appears that in many cities rents are index-linked. If rent increases here were similarly controlled this would both offer better protection to tenants and encourage more people to rent rather than buy, thus easing pressure on the housing market.
If landlords can make satisfactory profits in these markets they should be able to do so here. - Yours, etc.,
Cecil Bell, Sutton Court, Dublin 13.
