In Martin Wolf’s column last Wednesday on fracking, it was stated: “A single lateral shaft requires 7.5m to 15m litres of water and 57m to 225m litres of chemicals.” This should have read: A single lateral shaft requires 2m to 4m gallons of water and 15,000 to 16,000 gallons of chemicals. The error occurred in the editing process.

An article in last Wednesday’s edition dealt with the citizenship guidelines for surrogate-born children born abroad. The Department of Justice has clarified that the surrogate mother and the child will have a life-long legal relationship with one another.Also, in regard to steps to make a child a citizen, the genetic father’s undertaking must specify that he will commence the required court proceedings (applications) within 10 working days of the arrival of the child into the State unless there are exceptional circumstances, and in any case within 20 working days. The applications referred to here are applications to establish parentage and guardianship.
