An article in Wednesday’s edition, concerning the publication of the NI Police Ombudsman’s report, said it found that the RUC colluded with the Catholic Church and the British government. The report did not make that allegation. It found that an “RUC decision to seek [British] government’s assistance through an engagement with senior figures in the Catholic Church and then to accept an understanding that was reported back to them, compromised the investigation of the Claudy bombing, failed those who were murdered or injured; and undermined the police officers who were investigating the atrocity”.

What he actually said was that “there is not a serious Catholic press at the level of the Catholic journals of France and Italy”.
