Sir, - I write to express my support for the anti-litter billboard campaign of the Irish Business Against Litter organisation. I believe it is right to target the Government for failing to enforce the country's anti-litter laws.
I remember the present Environment Minister, Noel Dempsey, being very vocal on the issue when he was in Opposition. He repeatedly said that litter laws, no matter how good, were useless without vigorous enforcement.
Now that he is three years in office, I can only conclude that Mr Dempsey is being held back by some wider Government constraint. Would he please let us know why his Government colleagues won't allow him to pursue the vigorous country-wide enforcement of our anti-litter laws which he regarded as essential before he became Minister? - Yours, etc.,
Ian Broad, Temple Park Gardens, Dalkey, Co Dublin.
