Zimbabwean leader to be keynote speaker at colloquium

PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, who will deliver the keynote address at The Irish Times/Harvard University Colloquium today at University College, Dublin, was met on arrival at Dublin Airport yesterday by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ms Joan Burton.

Mr Mugabe, who will address the theme "Africa: Recognition of the Past Remedies for the Future", last night attended a dinner hosted by Dr Art Cosgrove, president of UCD.

He will meet the President, Mrs Robinson, this morning at Aras an Uachtarain and later attend a lunch hosted by the Taoiseach and Mrs Bruton, at Iveagh House.

Mr Mugabe was accompanied by Zimbabwe's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr I.S.G. Mudenge; the ambassador to Ireland, Dr N.T. Chideya; chief of protocol, Mr M.S. Kajese; and head of monitoring and implementation department, President's office, Col C.M. Katsande.

Also present to greet Mr Mugabe were Major T.B. McDowell, chairman of The Irish Times, and the Editor of The Irish Times, Mr Conor Brady.

The Irish Times/Harvard University colloquia address major issues of politics and government and are held every second year, alternating between Dublin and Harvard.
