Zapa Technology, a new Irish company set up by former Alphyra chief executive John Nagle has secured €2.5 million in venture capital.

The company, which is due to launch a new customer technology product known as ZapaTag in the coming months, said that Irish Venture capital firm Delta Partners had offered financial backing to enable it to roll-out a number of applications.

Zapa is one of the first companies in Europe to use Near Field Communications (NFC) - a short-range wireless technology - in its products.

Operating at 13.56 MHz and transferring data at up to 424 Kbit/s (kilobits per second), NFC enables communication between electronic devices such as mobile phones.
