A Co Cork teenager who had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl has been given six years' detention by Mr Justice Kinlen at the Central Criminal Court.
The defendant was 15 years old at the time of the offence on September 26th, 1998, in a south Co Cork town.
He cannot be named for legal reasons and has been serving three years' detention since last February at Trinity House for a long series of burglaries and other offences.
Mr Justice Kinlen made a strong recommendation that the defendant not be transferred out of St Patrick's Institution into a prison "under any circumstances" and that preferably he serve his detention in Trinity House. He is to review the matter in two years.
