British police arrested a youth and issued a warning today about a "bad batch" of the drug ecstasy blamed for the death of one youngster and the serious illness of several others at the weekend.

Toxicology tests have confirmed the tablets taken were ecstasy. A suspect in his late teens has been arrested and remains in custody, police said in a statement.

A teenager died early yesterday and suffered several convulsions after taking illegal drugs at a club in east London. One was still in critical condition in intensive care in a south London hospital.

Police described the tablets as white with a five-pronged crown indentation and warned any people in possession of them to hand them in to help doctors find out exactly what the poison was and assist in treating victims.
