A Dublin youth was held in custody yesterday after a court heard that threats he made to stab a garda and kill his wife and child, were taken seriously and he was capable of carrying them out.
While making the threats, the youth, who is 17, displayed a knowledge of certain aspects of the garda's private life, including what type of car he had and his family circumstances, the Dublin Children's Court heard.
Judge Geoffrey Browne heard that the youth was arrested on Sunday evening and charged with being intoxicated to such an extent that he was a danger to himself and others and for engaging in threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour, at a residential estate in west Dublin.
When he was taken to the station he put up a struggle. It took three gardaí to restrain him, Judge Browne heard.
He was further told that there was a strong Garda objection to bail due to substantive threats made by the youth during the arrest.
The court was also told that the youth was already facing charges for so-called joyriding, possession of offensive weapons and criminal damage offences.
He was remanded in custody to Clover Hill Prison until Friday.
