Prayers were offered at Masses in Cork yesterday for a 15-year-old cyclist who died after being knocked down by a taxi early yesterday morning.
His was one of two road deaths over the weekend, and follows the death on Saturday of a 31-year-old man, killed when the car in which he was a front-seat passenger hit a wall at Libgate, just outside Kilmore Quay, Co Wexford.
The cyclist who died in Cork was named as Dylan David Stark of Lower Pouladuff. He was cycling in the Pearse Road area of Ballyphehane in the city when he was involved in a collision with a taxi. The Junior Cert student was with another youth when the collision occurred at 12.15am.
He was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.
Ballyphehane parish priest Fr Michael Murphy said the youth's death was a tragic day for his friends and family.
