Yemeni soldiers have fired at protesters in the southern city of Taiz who are calling for the end of President Ali Abdullah Saleh's 33-year-rule, witnesses said today.
The UN human rights envoy said earlier this week her office was investigating reports that Yemeni soldiers have killed at least 50 protesters in Taiz since Sunday.
Elsewhere, flights were suspended at Yemen's Sanaa airport today due to fighting between tribesman and forces loyal to Mr Saleh, passengers said.
The battles between the forces had neared the airport, stranding hundreds of passengers. The airport was briefly closed last week due to the deadly street fighting.
