Work began today on erecting the second section of the Spire of Dublin on O'Connell Street.
The 17-metre long stainless steel piece, which arrived from an engineering works in Dungarvan, Co Waterford, this morning, will be in place by lunchtime, following a delay of a couple of hours.
The third section, which also arrived today, will be stored on-site - to be put up later this week. The first section, which is 22 metres long and weighs 42 tonnes, was erected last week.
When finished, the Spire will comprise six sections and will tower 120 metres into the sky over the capital, dwarfing nearby buildings. It will be seven times taller than the GPO.
