A TWO-YEAR €100 million construction project to build two flyovers on the N25 south ring road in Cork begins today, with lane restrictions to begin next week.
The two flyovers, to be built over the Sarsfield and Bandon Road roundabouts on the western approach to the city, will make the N25 free-flowing from the Dunkettle interchange to the Ballincollig bypass.
Cork City Council will operate a 24-hour helpline for traffic information during the construction phase from 9am today.
Partial lane restrictions will be introduced from next Monday, July 11th, to facilitate site investigation works. Council officials plan to avoid any major work close to the roundabouts during morning rush hour.
From Monday, westbound traffic using the right-turn lane on the approach to both roundabouts will be affected. However, the minor restrictions are not expected to cause delays.
About 85,000 vehicles travel on the Sarsfield Road roundabout per day.
Work on the N25 scheme is expected save motorists at least 30 minutes at peak times. It comprises upgrading more than 3km of the N25 south ring road to be carried out by Siac Construction Ltd.
