Two women were yesterday remanded on bail at Cork District Court on charges of defrauding a Cork city credit union of almost £300,000 over a five-year period.

Ms Helen Harrison (47), from Old Court, Ballincurrig, Leamlara, Co Cork, is charged with defrauding Blackpool Credit Union of a total of £256,000 between late 1993 and 1998. Ms Ann Harrington(37), from Kilnap Place, Farranree, Cork, is charged with defrauding the credit union of £33,000 during the same period.

Judge Con O'Leary remanded both women to appear at Cork District Court again on Tuesday.
