A Dublin woman with 102 convictions has been jailed for two years for having a stolen Chanel handbag. Carol Plunkett fought with gardaí and started to bang her head off a shop window while they tried to restrain her.
Plunkett (42), South Circular Road, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possessing a stolen Chanel handbag, worth €1,990, from Brown Thomas on Grafton Street on December 19th, 2009. She also pleaded guilty to producing a scissors while being arrested by Garda Enda Dowling.
Det Garda Michael Grine told Maurice Coffey, prosecuting, that Plunkett was spotted on a bicycle at South Anne Street carrying a large black handbag. The security tab was visible and gardaí suspected it was stolen. After they stopped her, she resisted arrest and produced a scissors. A struggle continued while Plunkett was in the back seat of the patrol car and Garda Dowling had to restrain her.
She was brought to a Garda station and while she was in a cell, she used a concealed blade to cut herself. She was taken to hospital where she was treated before being charged with the offences.
