One of Ireland's oldest schools, King's Hospital, Palmerstown, Dublin, is to appoint its first female principal.
The co-educational school, which has 700 pupils, is to appoint Ms Frances Hill to succeed Mr Harald Meyer, who is due to retire next year after 17 years.
Ms Hill becomes the first woman to take charge of a co-educational boarding and day school in the Republic and the second woman to be appointed principal of a Protestant co-educational school.
She is a past pupil of King's Hospital and was head of its English department. She was appointed assistant head in 1996 and deputy head in 2001.
