A woman has told a murder trial how she returned home to find her baby lifeless on a coffee table after leaving her then fiance minding him.
Leona Murphy (28), Gorey, Co Wexford, has told the Central Criminal Court that she had left her firstborn alone with Philip Doyle, who is now accused of the baby’s murder, in the house they shared when she went out to get a DVD.
Mr Doyle (34), Tinakilly, Aughrim, Co Wicklow, has pleaded not guilty to murdering 3½-month-old Ross Murphy at Creagh Demesne, Gorey, on April 5th, 2005.
Ms Murphy told the court she started going out with Mr Doyle shortly after her 21st birthday when she was 7½ months pregnant with the baby and that they began living together after he was born.
The trial continues before Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy and a jury.
