A woman who was sterilised in 1995 had an ectopic pregnancy which had to be removed early the following year, the High Court was told yesterday. Ms Anne Maguire (38), of Muirhevnamore, Dundalk, Co Louth, is suing the North Eastern Health Board for damages for alleged negligence. The claim is denied.
Ms Maguire claims she sought sterilisation at Louth County Hospital on January 18th, 1995, and a procedure was carried out by the NEHB's servants or agents. She claims they failed to inform her that despite the sterilisation she could still become pregnant and that additional contraceptive procedures were necessary.
In its defence, the health board denies the claim and pleads that without prejudice it would rely on consents signed by Ms Maguire on January 18th, 1995.
The hearing continues.
