A publican's wife has been ordered to pay more than £3,000 for a car she claimed, she never received. Mrs Geraldine Murphy, of The Lough Inn, Loughlinstown, Co Dublin, was ordered to pay the money to Ms Catherine O'Beirne, of Grove House, Baylough, Athlone.
Ms O'Beirne told Dublin Circuit Civil Court that she sold a Toyota Celica to Mrs Murphy's husband, Christy, in March 1988. She said Mrs Murphy's cheque was dishonoured and she never got the car back. She later discovered it had been resold.
Mrs Murphy said she stopped the cheque because a deal made by her husband with regard to repairs had not been honoured, and the car had not been handed over to them.
Judge Esmonde Smyth said he was satisfied that Ms O'Beirne had told the truth.
