A female driver died in Dublin this afternoon after apparently being rolled over by her own vehicle in Millbourne Avenue, Drumcondra in Dublin 9 shortly after 1pm.
A spokesman stressed that Gardaí were still investigating the incident but said that it appeared that, either the woman was leaning out the door of the blue Ford Fiesta while reversing when she fell from the vehicle, or the door opened accidentally resulting in her falling under the vehicle.
The woman who was in her late sixties was taken to the Mater hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was on Millbourne Avenue between 12.30pm and 1pm, particularly in the area near the library, who may have witnessed the incident to contact Santry Garda station on 01 6664000.
Separately, a motorcyclist in his 20s was killed in Co Cavan today in a collision with a dumper truck and a 17-year-old boy died in hospital last night, three days after a two-car crash in Limerick. Gardaí are seeking witnesses to both incidents.
The motorcyclist was fatally injured when his bike collided with a dumper truck at Drumgart, Belturbet at about 11.15am this morning. He was taken to Cavan General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the truck was not injured, gardaí said.
In the other incident, several people were injured in a two-car crash at Grange Cross, Tipperary Road at about 9pm on Saturday. Kieran Quigley from Rearcross, who was a passenger in one of the cars, died at the hospital yesterday.
Meanwhile, gardaí have also issued an appeal for witnesses to an incident on Kill Avenue, Dún Laoghaire, Co Dublin yesterday afternoon in which a man in his 30s died after being knocked down.
In the North, the PSNI are continuing their appeal for witnesses following the death today of a 14-year-old boy who was struck by a vehicle on the Victoria Road, Carrickfergus, Co Antrim on Monday.
The teenager was struck by a black Hyundai vehicle while apparently crossing the road in the Larne Road/Victoria Road junction area shortly before 8am on the morning of Monday June 11th.
Clarence Campbell from Carrickfergus, was brought to hospital with critical injuries which resulted in his death.
