A woman has been arrested after a man in his 50s was stabbed to death in his Dublin flat, gardaí said today.
A murder investigation was launched last night after the man was found in an apartment on Dorset Street in the north of the city at 10 p.m.
The man, who had been stabbed a number of times, was taken to the Mater Hospital where he died about an hour later.
It is understood that the man had lived in Dublin for a number of years but was originally from the north-west of Ireland.
A woman was arrested at the scene and detained for questioning at Mountjoy Garda Station.
Detectives from the station were joined by colleagues from Fitzgibbon Street Garda Station and a murder inquiry was launched.
The scene was sealed off for forensic examination by officers from the Garda Technical Bureau.
A post-mortem examination would be carried out later today.
