A woman who admitted helping to run a brothel in Dublin was fined £100 yesterday. Michelle Bailey (27), a mother of two, of Lower Dominick Street, Dublin, admitted helping to maintain a brothel known as Sandra's Health Studio on Dorset Street.
Det Sgt Gerard McDonnell told Dublin District Court the brothel was advertised in In Dublin magazine with a mobile phone number. He said gardai were on the premises on April 25th and the phone rang 10 times in 20 minutes. About £80 was found in a drawer and Bailey had £95 on her of which £50 was seized. The balance was returned to her for "humanitarian reasons", the sergeant said.
Mr Michael Staines, defending, said Bailey was from the country and had got involved in prostitution to support her family after she "fell on hard times". Her partner was not aware of how she was raising money and this revelation had "caused problems" for them, he added. Judge Catherine Murphy imposed a £100 fine and remanded her to appear again on December 15th.
